Meet Tom – Favourite Station Cockfosters
I’ve started a new branch of the Tube Mapper project exploring people’s favourite stations or stops on the London Underground Tube Map. I meet people at their favourite stations, taking photos and interviewing them to find out what makes it so special.
Meet Tom a London writer whose favorite Tube station is… Cockfosters.
Why is it their favourite station?
Cockfosters, designed by Charles Holden opened in 1933 and sits at the end of the Piccadilly Line in Zone 5. Its name comes from the Chief Forrester of Enfield Chase or the “cock forester”!
After 10+ years riding the Piccadilly Line, the name stuck with Tom and eventually inspired a whole play.
Tom’s play, also called Cockfosters, follows two strangers traveling from Heathrow Terminal 5 all the way to the line’s iconic final stop. The play launched perfectly during the Underground’s 160-year anniversary, celebrating the world’s first metro system.
What is your favourite station, and why?
